Server and Storage Teams use Separate Management Tools That Do Not Integrate Together

In the past, storage administrators tended to use management software that looked at fabrics and storage arrays while server admins tended to use management applications that monitored servers. While less than ideal, the one- to-one mapping of hosts to LUNs at least provided some measure of simplification. Virtualisation upended this less than perfect system by eliminating the easy linkage between storage and operating systems with the addition of virtual datastores. With virtualisation, storage administrators have lost the ability to determine what applications are hitting which spindles just as server admins have lost the ability to tell which physical storage components are being utilised by their applications.

vFoglight Storage 2.0 Integrates Server and Storage Data to Provide End-to-End Monitoring

vFoglight Storage 2.0 is designed to bridge this gap by combining and analysing information from storage arrays and fabricswith the information contained within VMware vCentre. This new release provides a holistic view of the storage from the application through the virtualisation layer to the physical disk spindle. This universal visibility enables server and storage administrators to literally get on the same page when managing, planning and troubleshooting virtual machine performance.
