An extension to the M5 Series range, the high-performance M5 Pro presents a professional grade SSD solution for prosumers, businesses, and SMEs. In addition to superior performance speed and True Speed technology, the M5 Pro will also feature two enhanced data protection technologies, True Protect (for accuracy) and AES Data Encryption (for maximum security). “The M5 Pro is the next step in the evolution of the SSD, combining high speed, drive reliability, and data-level protection. In recent years Plextor has been able to develop SSDs that deliver high real-world performance and sustained speed over the long-term. Now with the M5 Pro, we aim to use Plextor’s abilities to offer extreme data protection and give users total confidence in every single aspect of their drive,” says Maarten Souren, European Marketing Manager for Plextor.
Key Features:
As the first Plextor SSD to incorporate the latest 3rd generation multi-core Marvell® 88SS9187 controller and Toshiba NAND flash, it can handle extremely high loads making it suitable for use in a heavy workstation, server role, or Raid 0 configuration environment. The M5 Pro also features the renowned True Speed Technology to prevent the drastic performance drop seen in some SSDs after intense or long-term usage. This combination of firmware, technology and reliability means the M5 Pro sets new performance records, featuring a world-fastest sustained random read / write speed up to 94,000 / 86,000 IOPS as well as continuous read/write speeds up to 540/450 MB/s.
The M5 Pro introduces True Protect technology, a unique two-layer protection system which preserves the integrity of data in order to achieve total accuracy over long term periods. The first layer uses a 128-bit error correction code (ECC) built into the latest Marvell controller, which confirms that each piece of data is correctly stored and with 100% accuracy. This is complemented by a second layer of read protection offered by the Robust Data Hold-out algorithm embedded within Plextor’s exclusive and self-developed firmware. This algorithm allows the drive to automatically check and correct data being read from the flash memory incase ECC decoding fails.
AES is the U.S. government standard encryption technology, divided into three levels (128,192, 256) – and is built into the validated Marvell controller. To ensure maximum confidentiality of data, the M5 Pro drive utilizes this hardware in order to provide the highest level, secure 256-bit full-drive encryption, to protect from theft/unauthorised access.
With the M5 Pro, Plextor has focused on developing one of the most stable drives on the market, with all drives undergoing rigorous high-temperature burn-in tests and accelerated usage simulation testing to ensure reliability - resulting in a MTBF of 2.4 million hours.
What’s more, extensive testing has been conducted from the initial design phase of the M5 Pro series, with product manufacture only taking place once the design had passed the strict enterprise-grade Zero Error standard (400 units surviving 500 hours of the toughest continuous testing).
