Equinix driving data center efficiency across EMEA

Equinix Inc. has announced that its London LD4 International Business Exchange™ (IBX®) data center has been granted ‘participant’ status in the European Commission’s voluntary Code of Conduct for data center energy efficiency and environmental management.

Date: 27 Jul 2012

This move represents a first step in Equinix’s plans to continue compliance and sign up data centers in all of its key European locations to meet the Code of Conduct, giving the company ‘corporate’ participant status.

Russell Poole, Managing Director for Equinix UK said, “As the industry grows increasingly aware of the need to optimize power while minimizing environmental impact, our goal is to offer our customers the best possible choices when it comes to their infrastructure needs. We strive to achieve a mature balance between high performance, energy efficiency and environmental management, with all the customer benefits this brings – in terms of cost efficiency, transparency, and independently verified evidence of Corporate Social Responsibility.”

The Code of Conduct was created by the European Commission in response to increasing energy consumption in data centers and the need to reduce the related environmental, economic and energy supply security impacts. Demonstrating its commitment to this vision, Equinix has built an industry-leading integrated energy management framework for customers which is endorsed and certified by internationally recognized agencies and organisations including ISO 50001 and ISO 14001. Equinix was the first data center provider in Europe to achieve ISO 50001, having played a key consultative role in defining a number of the best practices endorsed by the Code of Conduct.
