Racktivity announces first “full feature” DC power sensor

The DC2Sensor completes Racktivity’s power monitoring and management solution targeted at telecommunication, broadband, wireless and broadcast service providers.

Date: 19 Apr 2012

Racktivity has launched the DC2Sensor, a DC power monitoring solution designed to address the needs of telecommunication, broadband, wireless and broadcast service providers.

“Direct current or DC is still prevalent in data centers, PoPs, Head Ends of service providers.” explains Hans Witdouck, CEO for Racktivity “If you look at the market; most DC monitoring solutions are incredibly basic and have limited functionality. However, these service provider customers serve millions of users and maintain vital infrastructure where accurate and responsive power monitoring is critical.”

The DC2Sensor can be installed at the DC power distribution board or in distributed remote locations such as PoPs, base stations, and Head Ends. The unit features a DIN rail mountable design and Ethernet connectivity and supports 12 inputs for current measurements.

The unit is fully compatible with Racktivity's Data Center Performance Manager (DCPM), the only distributed software solution to manage thousands of multi-vendor PDUs as a single environment. DC2Sensors also support the Racktivity EnergySensor range to offer a granular set of environmental monitoring including temperature, humidity and motion sensing as well as smoke detection, water leak detection under raised floors and dry contact for rack door intrusion detection.

“The DC2Sensor provides the missing element for a complete power monitoring solution and addresses a real issue for data center managers with large or distributed estates of DC powered equipment. With the addition of the DC²Sensor we can now give a complete view of the power capacity usage by service providers and give them tools to analyse, simulate and reduce their carbon footprint.” Witdouck adds, “We have already taken pre-orders from several telecoms customers who we consulted during product development and we are confident, based on their reactions, that there are no DC monitoring products on the market that offer this level of functionality and tight integration into an overall monitoring platform.”

In line with the rest of the Racktivity range of products, the new DC2Sensor has a rich set of features and can provide - through either the built-in OLED display or via the DCPM platform - monitoring of DC voltage per feed, current per input, power per port, total power, energy per port and total energy with extreme accuracy.
