BMC Software continues its commitment to the mainframe through the acquisition of IMS Products from NEON Enterprise Software

Creates the industry’s most comprehensive toolset for IMS database management.

Date: 30 Nov 1999

BMC Software has acquired the portfolio of IMS (Information Management System) database products and customers from NEON Enterprise Software, a leading mainframe management software company.

With the acquisition of NEON Enterprise Software’s IMS products, BMC further enhances its IMS database management portfolio, providing the most comprehensive solution set to best address today’s IT challenges with big data, database availability and data analysis all within an organisation’s IMS environment.

IMS is a database and transaction management system that runs on mainframes and is predominantly used by organisations that require high-speed transaction processing, such as insurance, telecommunications and financial institutions. Given the importance of transactions in these industries, their IT organisations must have high-performance management solutions that address the performance and availability needs of their IMS environments and enable them to meet their service levels.

Organisations rely on the mainframe and IMS databases to support business critical services such as web-based online transactions, banking transactions and airline reservations. Adding NEON Enterprise Software’s IMS products to BMC’s existing offerings will satisfy the critical need organisations have for industry-leading, high-performance solutions that not only help manage, optimise and support IMS environments, but also reduce operating costs and improve business service delivery.

BMC continues to focus on advancing market-leading software for the data center as it integrates NEON Enterprise Software’s IMS products with BMC’s existing portfolio of high-performance IMS management solutions.

“This acquisition continues to showcase BMC’s more than 30-year commitment to providing customers with high-performing mainframe solutions,” said Bill Miller, president of Mainframe Service Management at BMC Software. “Our customers will now have access to the broadest and most comprehensive IMS database management solutions in the industry, increasing the efficiency of their IMS environment and the value the mainframe provides to the business.”

BMC continues to see expansive growth in the mainframe marketplace with customers and organisations placing resources and efforts into growing mainframe environments that benefit the new IT environment. With this acquisition, BMC is continuing to help IT organisations strike the right balance between business service delivery and cost by maximising the investment that organisations have made in their mainframe and hybrid data center.
